ALBERTVILLE — Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater is proud to announce the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel James “Shawn” Perry as its new general manager, effective Aug. 19. Perry’s distinguished career in the U.S. Army and subsequent success in the civilian sector highlight his dedication to leadership and community service.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Perry said, “I’m thrilled to step into the role of general manager for this incredible sports and recreation complex. It’s an honor to lead a project that promises to ignite local excitement, drive athletic excellence, and fuel economic growth. Together, we’ll create a hub of entertainment and inspiration for our community.”
Perry’s military background includes 24 years as a cavalryman and Army aviator, where he demonstrated commitment and bravery in various theaters of operation. Retired as a respected combat veteran, Perry pursued higher education, earning a master’s degree from Liberty University with high distinction. This academic pursuit facilitated his successful transition into defense contracting and entrepreneurship.
His distinguished career is matched by his personal dedication to community and family. Married to Deana Perry, a fellow combat veteran, they have three adult children and one currently attending Guntersville High School. The family values outdoor activities and engagement with the local community.
Perry plans to build on the park’s existing achievements in his first year as general manager, ensuring continuous improvement in the park’s facilities and services.
“I am passionate about people and service, and about being the best person I can be. I want us to be the best park for Albertville and the surrounding community,” Perry said, outlining his enthusiasm for the new role.
In his long-term vision for SMPA, Perry sees the park having a significant positive impact on the life quality of the citizens of Albertville and its surrounding areas. He also acknowledges its enormous economic potential and intends to capitalize on it for the overall benefit of the community.
“We are pleased to welcome Shawn Perry as the new general manager of Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater,” Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea said. “Shawn brings a wealth of management experience across diverse sectors, with a unique blend of organizational and entrepreneurial leadership that makes him well-suited for this challenge.
“We look forward to working with Shawn and feel confident that he will be instrumental as we strive to serve this community and the Sand Mountain region with excellence.”
Patrick O’Brien, vice president of venue management for Sports Facilities Companies, said, “Shawn’s commitment to service and depth of leadership experience brings significant short- and long-term positive impact to our team. He is going to help take us to new heights relative to the level of service we provide, the impact we are having on the community, our team members, and overall team development.
“We are extremely excited for his tenure as general manager to start, and for him to lead us through the next chapters of the Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater journey.”
