The City of Albertville announced the entertainment for its eighth annual Main Street Music Festival on Monday.
The two-day concert is scheduled for Aug. 4-5, 2017 in downtown Albertville.
Headlining this year’s event is multi-platinum, global superstar, Bret Michaels, who has turned his passion for music into a multi-faceted brand that encompasses record breaking touring sales, reality TV stardom, legendary songs that have sold over 32 million records, product endorsements, as well as being a devoted philanthropist, all supported by three generations of loyal fans.
Rising to fame as the front man of Poison, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands, he helped define the rock ‘n roll scene on the Sunset Strip. Poison’s massive success includes selling more than 30 million records worldwide and numerous hit singles. Equally as successful, Michael’s solo career has charted its own course with multiple solo albums. His last album, “Custom Built,” topped the charts, reaching No. 1 on Billboards Hard Rock list.
His latest CD, “Bret Michaels: Good Songs and Great Friends,” features a myriad of legendary artists such as: Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Loretta Lynn, Jimmy Buffett, Ace Frehely (Kiss), Michael Anthony (Van Halen) and members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, to name a few.
When this multi-talented performer is not touring he can be found both in front of and behind the camera as a director, producer, and a reality TV superstar; known for VH1’s “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels” and docu-series “Life As I Know It.”
Michaels has also starred in and won Donald Trump’s NBC hit, “Celebrity Apprentice.” Coming into the show as the underdog, his tenacity and business sense helped him win the series, raising more than $300,000 for diabetes research.
Michaels, also known for his Pets Rock Collection for the retail giant, PetSmart, and a host of other entrepreneurial endeavors has built his Michaels Entertainment Group into a one-man, $100 million empire. Personally and through his Life Rocks Foundation, Michaels has helped raise 10s of millions of dollars for charity and makes donations to not only diabetes awareness and research but to such causes as childhood cancer, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PetSmart Charities, and more.
Having been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of six, Michaels is passionately devoted to raise awareness of the debilitating disease in hopes of finding a cure. Michaels, who will perform Friday night, is known as the ultimate fan friendly, crowd pleaser.
Friday night will also feature Jacksonville’s own accomplished musician, Riley Green, who will open for Michaels. Green has released three popular EP’s, starred in two TV shows (Winner of CMT’s Redneck Island and his own hunting show on DirtRoadTV) boasts thousands of social media fans/followers, and has played across the Southeast to hordes of music lovers singing the words of his Alabama anthem “Bury Me in Dixie” back to him.
Performing to two sold out crowds at the highly sought after Iron City Event Venue in Birmingham and landing a spot in this past weekend’s lineup at mega-fest “Rock the South” in Cullman, Green has not only found his place in the music world, but is making a unique and original mark on it in the Southern region.
Outside of music and the outdoors, Green always found time for athletics as a former three-sport athlete in high school and a walk-on quarterback at Jacksonville State University.
One of the greatest country music singers to ever step up to the microphone, John Anderson, possessing one of the most instantly recognizable vocal instruments in the history of the genre will headline Saturday night’s show. On his latest album “Goldmine,” released on his own Bayou Boys label, Anderson has completed a self-proclaimed long overdue record of original songs. The award-winning songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album’s 13 tracks that are bringing joy to the hearts of some of the most devoted fans in country music.
With a career dating back to the 1970’s, Anderson is known for his astounding hits such as: “Seminole Wind,” “Straight Tequila Night,” “Swingin’,” “Wild and Blue,” “I Wish I Could Have Been There,” “Money in the Bank,” and many more.
He has a long standing career reputation of “fighting for the music,” never being a fan of over produced studio sounds or fully orchestrated demos trying to tell his musicians and band members what to do or how to sound. His decree is “the real thing, creativity as it happens.”
His career has produced 23 albums, more than 60 singles, and a wealth of industry awards. Goldmine however, proves that there is still a lot of gold in John Anderson. Now, two decades after the dizzying heights of “Seminole Wind,” Anderson’s motivations have shifted fully from commercial aspirations to unimpeded artistic integrity.
“At this point, it’s just for me and the fans,” Anderson said.
Also an ambitious songwriter, Anderson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on Oct. 5, 2014. Anderson is now the standard bearer for traditional country music, of the 100 Proof Variety.
Opening for John Anderson comes our Special Guest Star and country music newcomer, Jacob Bryant.
His 2016 EP “Up In Smoke” debuted at No. 7 on the iTunes Country Chart and the video for his single “A Woman’s Touch,” debuted at No. 1 on CMT’s 12 pack countdown above Blake Shelton’s “Every Time I Hear That Song” and Miranda Lambert’s “We Should Be Friends,” staying in the Top 5 for seven weeks.
Bryant, an accomplished songwriter recently penned a tune called, “Out There,” with fellow country newcomer, Luke Combs, who is taking country music radio by storm all across the nation. This year marks the debut of his first full-length record (after four EP’s) due out in November.
“I’m really proud and excited for my fans about the new record” Bryant said. “We recorded a couple of my most requested songs from our live show along with a number of new songs I can’t wait to share.”
Albertville also welcomes back a sweet addition to our main stage, none other than the Sweet Tea Trio. Victoria Camp, Savannah Coker and Kate Falcon, the three young ladies who make up this stellar spit fire group, were named Alabama’s Country Female Artist of the Year for 2016 and are currently nominated again for 2017.
They were also chosen by LiveNation this year to be the opener for Bon Jovi in Birmingham, and performed six shows as a special guest of Kid Rock on his eighth annual Chillin’ The Most Cruise.
The Sweet Tea Trio has just released their first EP, the self-titled debut project represents a collaboration with some of Nashville’s most successful songwriters, musicians, producers, and engineers. It became available May 12 for pre-order on iTunes and will be available worldwide on Friday, June 9, the day before they take the stage to perform at the CMA’s in Nashville.
“This EP is something that we are really proud of as we focused on creating something that captured who we are as a group and something that families can enjoy,” Falcon said.
“I am excited for the fans to hear the words of our hearts and the harmonies that make us sisters at heart,” Coker said.
“We really can’t wait for everybody to hear our music. It’s been a long time coming,” Camp said.
They take the stage Saturday night with John Anderson and Jacob Bryant.
“We have been completely overwhelmed and astonished by the level of sponsorships we have taken in for this year’s festival, said Robin Gore, executive assistant to Mayor Tracy Honea and member of the MSMF Steering Committee. “We set a very high goal this year, and we have more than surpassed it. We wanted to be able to pay for this year’s event in full, and have enough put back for next year to start planning earlier so that we can continue to grow the festival, make it better and better each year, give back to our community, and know that we can continue to keep it free. Our other goal was to have all funds collected by June 1 so that we could pay for the entire event in advance. I can say that we have collected nearly every dime.
“It’s really an amazing feat how our community comes together to make this happen and we couldn’t be more proud or grateful of them and to them,” Gore stated. At this time, we’d like to thank our Triple Platinum, Double Platinum, Platinum, Diamond, and Gold Sponsors: Sand Mountain Broadcasting WQSB/Power 107.5, WHNT News 19, Whitaker Contracting, Alfa Insurance, Harris Fowler Insurance, Howard Bentley, Marshall County Gas District, Coca-Cola, Bankston Motor-Homes, Sand Mountain Toyota, Vantage Bank, Santa Fe, and Alfa Insurance- Jason Simpson and Miguel Corona.
